CAS- ACTIVITY- basic training on how to brew an espresso

Never underestimate the power of a good cup of coffee. Coffee basic training includes understanding different types of brews, grinding variety, and roasts. And of course, making your own cup of coffee. Kokoro coffee is a growing coffee brand, and my family is a stakeholder in the very company. Hence, I learned the basics of coffee-making as an art form from the company’s owner, Amit Zorba.

LO1- Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth.

Like artistic skills, which can be developed over time. Coffee-making too requires patience and dedicated efforts. I had to develop a taste, so I can distinguish between a good and a bad cup of coffee. Secondly, I had to learn how to handle the equipment and machines, since they are high-quality and expensive, I had to avoid making errors at all costs. Since I am good at memorizing, the steps from starting the machine to grinding the beans. And also understanding how the flavors vary depending on the different kinds of beans

Lo2- Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process.

It seems easy when you see a barista at work, but when I first tried to brew an espresso myself, I faced and overcame challenges like not using a scale for measurement, the espresso being too strong or weak, having an incomplete understanding of brew ratios, or failing to pre-heat the machine. Learning from these mistakes, I developed organization and thinking skills.

Lo4-commitment to and perseverance

It is easy to give up, but since I was accompanied by my friend, the level of commitment was naturally high. I slightly burned my palm when frothing the milk, however this experience not only showed me how perseverant I was, but I gained a lot of knowledge about coffee.
