Voulenteering for Farewell preparation

The students of grade 11 had decided to plan the farewell celebration for grade 12. According to their plan they had activities, dances, DJ and some games. They were looking for volunteers from grade 11 to help conduct this event. That’s when I volunteered to dance, at first I was very frightened to sign up as I had never danced on a particular song in front of such a big audience.

The LO’s I achieved were 1,2,5. I achieved LO1 which is Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth by practicing the dance. There were a few steps which were easy for me however few steps which were very difficult. I had to dance to 4 songs and all were group performances. As we had very less time I had to practice all the steps which were difficult for me many times. We even met at people’s houses after school to practice so that we could work on our weaknesses.

I achieved LO2 by overcoming the challenges I faced. The biggest challenge I faced was facing such a huge crowd. I never felt nervous while speaking in front of a crowd but performing something which was new always made me conscious. I always felt that I would make mistakes. Secondly learning all the dances was very difficult, there were 4 dances and so many steps to remember which was very challenging however with a lot of practise it I learnt it.

AS all the dances were group performances getting coordination was very important so that the performance would look good. In a few dances someone would not be able to do the step, some step had to be done in pairs which was challenging.

The learner profile catered in this experience was a risk taker as signing up for this dance performance was a very big step for me.Overall this CAS experience gave me an opportunity to explore a new artform.
