Cycling

Fitness has been one of my primary concerns in my life, and a small goal towards it.I cycled on weekends for a month and recorded the data using a mobile app. Cycling has always provided me with both physical and mental energy. Every Saturday and Sunday for four weeks, I cycled from Udhna to VR and from VR as a group we cycled to Dumas . This helped me stay in shape and enthused me for the rest of the day. I also demonstrated teamwork by planning our route to accommodate everyone’s needs and cycling with ten of my peers. This activity gave us the opportunity to remain physically fit.

Learning Outcome 1: Identify your own strengths and develop areas for personal growth.

Strengths:

Endurance – With my previous training of cycling for several years, and regularly playing sports, I had developed a good amount of endurance. This was further enhanced while going for a long ride on my bicycle which involved riding almost 32 kilometers in under 1 hour 20 mins max and repeated 8 times with different timings and distances. This put my previously built endurance to test and at the same time helped me develop more endurance.

Core Strength – I witnessed during the cycling that I had not taken a stop for too long and rode at least 10-15 kilometers without taking a break to drink water . This core strength also helped me in improving my endurance and performing better off in sports.

Weakness:

Muscle strength  –  Before I started cycling, I seemed to have no muscle strength and couldn’t do push-ups or other forms of exercise. This was also a problem for me when I was playing football or any other sport. However, this is one area in which I have seen the most improvement since having started cycling. I can now do 10-20 push ups everyday. At the moment, I still lack muscle strength when it comes to doing more set repetitions and pull-ups. As a result, muscle strength is still an area where I need to improve.

Learning Outcome 2:  Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process.

Cycling was difficult because I had not cycled in a long time due to the pandemic. It initially caused severe muscle pain after cycling, making it difficult for me to focus on my schoolwork and other extracurriculars. This was challenging because it was the first time I had ventured outside of my comfort zone and cycled more than 15-20 kilometers. With the assistance of my supervisor on the aspects that needed improvement, such as muscle strength and flexibility, I began with short distance cycling of about 15-20 kilometers and eventually achieved a goal of more than 30 kilometers.

Learning Outcome 4:

This was a difficult activity because it required both physical and mental effort. High intensity cycling can be extremely physically draining at times, but in order to execute the repetitions and goals for that day, I needed to be self-empowered with great courage and determination. I used to ride for 1-1.5 hours two days a week in order to achieve the aims I set for myself and improve my actual fitness level.

Conclusion: Show commitment to and perseverance in CAS experiences.

In conclusion, Cycling assisted me in identifying my qualities and shortcomings, and I was able to perform my strengths while bettering my weaknesses. Taking on this new adventure increased my self-esteem because I had been improving my fitness level.
