Planning FSMUN

Background of the Experience:

Fountainhead Schools Model United Nations (FSMUN) is a MUN conference that is hosted by the schools once every academic year. For my CAS, I played the role of the secretary-general of the conference which basically meant that, with others, I had to plan and conduct the conference. Through the experience, I was able to execute the conference with the team, making it an overall educational experience.

Learning outcome 1:

Here, while planning, I was able to look into my strengths and weaknesses. These allowed me to better understand how I am best able to contribute to the conference and areas where I would require some form of aid from peers. As planning a conference of this remembrance is demanding, figuring out areas of strength and weakness helped me to plan the conference effectively and improve in things that I was once weak in. As this was an event that took an ample amount of time to plan and execute, making a checklist would help me plan more effectively.

Learning outcome 2:

Executing an event has its own fair share of challenges that one needs to overcome and that is what I did throughout the entire course of the process. Not only did I develop and perfect skills like communication and self-management, but I also found out that in many tough times and positions, I was also able to make decisions that were found to be efficient and effective. Through this experience, I was able to understand how to make effective choices and how to effectively act in challenging times.

Learning Outcome 3:

An event involves a lot of planning and through this experience, I am able to explore this learning outcome. This helped me to understand how to plan a conference effectively plan and execute a conference and why it is important to plan everything beforehand. Not only this, but the event also required all of the various roles and responsibilities which were also important to plan and execute.

Learning Outcome 4:

Planning an event not only takes an idea but also commitment and perseverance. Through the experience, we get to see that the even thas been planned for 6 months. Through the process of planning, I showcased commitment as I took initiative to make sure all the tasks are to be done and perseverance as I kept hope even when things got a lot difficult for the team which lead to the event going smoothly.

Learning Outcome 5:

We have to remember that organizing an event is not a one-person job and so I was codependent on my team who I was working with. Through the event, I was able to exhibit my capability to work as a part of a group where everyone have the same amount of say in the planning. I also was able to grow as a leader as I was able to understand everyone’s point of view and then make a decision accordingly. Through this event, I was also able to learn various other philosophies and exhibited that even though I am a leader, I still learn from others around me.

Learning Outcome 6:

While planning the event, we wanted to make the conference more eco-friendly and so we had implemented a lot of other plans related to the same. Not only this, in the conference topics from around the world were selected as discussion on the same was required. This not only included topics related to the environment but also topics related to the various conflicts, violence, and human rights which brought many other topics into perspective thus leading to a more fruitful debating event.

Learning Outcome 7:

Certain choices that were required to be made talked about the ethics and choices of the conference. Choices such as the information provided in the study material and the type of debate needed to be done would make it more interesting and so through this, I was able to focus on this LO.
