Hosting and Dancing in the Farewell

The farewell is one of the most memorable events for a student in high school, whether as a junior or a senior. All throughout high school, I have wanted to be part of the farewell program that would be organized for my seniors as it’s a significant change in our lives too, making 11th graders realize that this time next year, we would be in their places and attending our school farewell!

LO1Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth
LO4 Show commitment to and perseverance in CAS experiences

CAS in the diploma program gave me opportunities to explore a variety of skills which includes leadership and public speaking. As someone who enjoys writing and public speaking in certain settings and has quite some experience in both, I really wanted to write the script for anchoring of the farewell speeches as well as become an anchor myself. But since we were informed merely 25 days prior due to Covid-19, time became a challenge.

LO2 Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process
LO5 Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively

It takes a lot of perseverance to develop something from scratch, and that too for an entirely student-led event that has so many factors in play. This CAS experience aided creativity and critical thinking at the same time, to create a script that fit the hosts we had but one that also kept our audience engaged and entertained was not easy but I overcame this challenge by patiently working through any hurdles along with collaborating with my peers to make it a success by practicing every day and any chance we got.

Overall, through a systematic exploration of certain ideas, plans, and a variety of different script sets, I was able to hone my skills and write something I was genuinely proud of. And gave me a sense of accomplishment knowing that the audience enjoyed it!
