Playing Basketball For Physical Fitness_CAS Experience#5

For the third experience,I wanted to do a physical activity and so I decided to play basketball.I am very well inclined towards playing basketball and it is one of my favourite sports.I have been playing basketball for more than five years and have participated in many tournaments.Due to lockdown we were all stuck at our homes and so we could not focus on our physical health which is why I decided to do a physical activity by playing basketball for two months continuously and for one hour daily.

2.How do you feel now that you’re aware of it?
Now that I am aware of it I feel like improving upon my weaknesses by implementing the required actions which will help myself convert these weaknesses into strengths.I feel like I have to sincerely implement those actions in order to improve my basketball skills.

3.Why is it important for us to know our strengths? Or weaknesses?
It is important for us to know our strengths and weaknesses in order to know where do  we stand which will further help us to improve ourselves at our best levels.Being aware of our weaknesses will help us know on which aspects we have to improve upon and being aware of our strengths will help us realize our real potential and encourage ourselves leading to achieve everything at its best.

4.Did you work/or would like to work on your weakness? Relate one area where overcoming this weakness would have benefited you.
I worked on my weaknesses by implementing all those actions which were required to work on my weaknesses .For example, to improve my dribbling I searched for a few dribbling drills on the internet and practiced them until I did not notice an improvement in my dribbling.Few dribbling drills I came up on the internet were low dribbling,crossover dribbling,protective dribbling,power dribbling but I practiced front v dribble and figure eight drible.

Learning Outcome 2
1.What was so challenging and why?The challenging part was improving upon one of my weaknesses which is endurance.Basketball is a game which requires the player to stay physical throughout the game in order to score maximum baskets and talking about myself I am a person who gets exhausted very quickly and so at times there were situations where I used to play only for 45 minutes and no longer than that.

2.Have you done anything similar before?Yes,I have done something similar before such as playing volleyball and football but I could not enjoy them as much as I enjoy basketball as I have been playing basketball for over five years. 

3.How did you overcome this challenge?I overcame this challenge by continuously practicing and reminding myself that an  improvement in my endurance will help me play longer and make my game time a lot better.

4.How do you feel about having undertaken this challenge?Why is it important for you to undertake new challenges? I feel a bit more confident having undertaken this challenge since it helped me improve my game.Being a controller I have to play offensive and so my defense is a bit weak but now that my defense has improved I can not only play as a controller but also at other positions.It is important for me to undertake new challenges in order to witness my personal improvement in this game which will further help me play better in upcoming tournaments and competitions.

5.Did you discover any skills you hadn’t known or learned yet? How could this skill be useful to you in the future? How does having this new skill make you feel about yourself? Why is it important to learn new skills?
Yes I did discovered several skills I hadn’t known or learned yet like blocking,offensive rebounding,defensive rebounding and etc.These skills can be useful to me in the future when I will participate in tournaments and competitions held in school,college or any other place.Having these new skills makes me feel confident as I can witness an improvement in my game.It is important to learn new skills as it helps us gain new knowledge and new experiences which further trains our brain to handle a wide range of challenges leading us to achieve our ultimate goals.

1.How did you organize yourself? I organized myself by creating a timetable.

2.Are you usually an organized person? Yes,I am an organized person and I like my schedule to be systematic so that each and every pending work could be completed on time with accuracy.

3.What was difficult? Planning or the initiating?Why? Initiating and planning both were pretty difficult.Initiating because I was not getting enough time to start this particular CAS experience due to academics and preparation of entrance exams but then finally I decided to take out some time to start this CAS experience.Planning because making a schedule

4.Did you discover any skills you hadn’t known or learned yet that you had to use for the planning and initiating of this activity? Yes I did discover skills that I hadn’t known or learned yet that I had to use for the planning and initiating like creating a timetable with specific timings,dates,type of skill and mentioned.

5.Do you think planning or initiating anything in the future will be easier now?Yes,I think planning or initiating will be easier in the future now because I have already developed those skills and I will try my best to apply those skills in all the areas possible in order to make my work easier,faster and with greatest accuracy.

6.Why is it important to know how to plan and initiate activities? It is important to know how to plan and initiate activities because planning helps us identify and achieve our goals easily and also it helps us keep a check on our time management skills by meeting the due dates and deadlines.

Learning Outcome 4

What made this activity difficult where perseverance or commitment was necessary?How did that make you feel? Playing basketball for two months continuously and for one hour daily was very difficult and this was the area where perseverance or commitment was necessary.There were times where I felt frustrated and there were times where I felt extremely exhausted but my will to improve my game motivated me to play for two months continuously and for one hour daily.

What commitment was required to complete this activity?My commitment towards my goals was required to complete this activity.My main goal was to improve my game by learning new skills,techniques and approaches and my sub goal was to be a more healthier and fitter person.

Is it easy for you to commit to things?To be persistent?Why or why not?Why is showing perseverance and commitment important? Yes,it’s easy for me to commit to things and be persistent but sometimes there are circumstances where I procrastinate or loose my interest which makes it harder for me to commit to things.It is important to show our perseverance and commitment because it helps us become a more hard working person which further helps us achieve success.

Final Takeaway

What learner profile characteristics have you developed in this activity?
Inquirer:I developed natural curiosity and showcased independence while completing the course.I actively enjoyed learning about mental health and this information will be sustained with me throughout my life.

Balanced:Balanced because I understood the importance of intellectual,physical and emotional balance to achieve a healthy well being.I personally think there was already some balance between the intellectual and emotional component but I was lacking on the physical component which is why I decided to play basketball.

Reflective-Reflective because I reflected upon my current game and gave thoughtful considerations to the areas of improvement which were some skills,techniques and approaches such as dribbling,defense and endurance.

There are no links with my subjects and this CAS experience and as such this activity has not benefit others but can benefit others if I share what I have learned with my family,friends and teachers.The highlight of this experience for me was when I practicing so hard and overcame two of my weaknesses which were dribbling and defense.This not only made me a bit proud of myself but also my coaches and friends who I play with.Yes my perspectives or values were challenged and altered because now I have learnt to be a more hard working and a more disciplined person.I achieved success and this made me feel happy than before and for sure bought a sense of accomplishment and enjoyment to me.From this experience I improved upon my game by overcoming my weaknesses and challenges and by learning new skills,techniques and approaches which will further help me in my life whenever I will play basketball again.If I did this activity again I would like to decrease the time period from one hour to forty five minutes so that I don’t compromise on other activities going in life as well.I am going to apply this learning in the future when I will play basketball in my university or maybe in upcoming competitions and tournaments.I wish to contribute to the society by spreading as much information as I can about the significance of our physical health because as we are growing up we are only focusing on our academics and not on our health which can lead to severe negative consequences in the future.
