CAS- SERVICE – Volunteering for a Virtual Marathon Packaging

Eduthon was a non-profit Virtual Marathon, which was a CAS project done by students in grade 12. The event was very successful, they had participants from all over India. Post the event, they had to send t-shirts to the ones who had participated, and medals to the ones who had finished the marathon. I volunteered to provide service by helping them with packaging.

Lo1: Strength and Growth

The idea of simply packaging seems too easy, through the course of the experience, I was able to develop my organisation and self-management skills. I learned how to make use of a handful amount of resources, and that definitely is growth in terms of organizational development.

Lo2: Challenge and Skills

Several Challenges were faced, such as losing count of how many packages were packed, some of the participants did not provide necessary info. such as their address, which obviously makes our job harder. At a point, we were facing issues with the size of the t-shirts, and placing the correct medal, since there were many categories in the marathon. I mentioned that I developed my self-management skills, but that came at a cost, losing track of the packing but me in a difficult position, nonetheless, we also found ways to overcome the struggles.

Lo4: Working Collaboratively with Others

The experience was completely team-work, while I believe that I work best alone, without the help of the others present there, the work would be much harder, we were able to finish the experience in about 3.5 hours, but solo work would take even longer. Which is why working collaboratively was essential.

Lo5: SHowing perseverance and Commitment

We all tried our best staying dedicated and standing-up only when the work was done, to complete packaging in time required commitment, being equally involved and attempting to resolve the challenges as a team. I think the flow of the work was not the best, but definitely something to take-away learning from. We may not necessarily be involved in package any time soon, but the ability to be able to handle and sort something of this gravity will help us in the future.
