Looking after stray dogs

Animal abuse is a very hot global issue in recent times. Especially, stray animals face a lot of challenges and survival threats throughout their lifetime. I have been an animal lover since I was a kid but when it came to dogs, I used to freak out, I was really scared of them. But because of the covid’19 situation, I noticed that there were 4 puppies who were trying to have shelter in my building but the watchmen used to hit the Mumma dog, I took a stand for them and now they live inside my building. I took care of them and made sure they were healthy. All 4 puppies got gastro which is a very deadly disease and one of them passed away due to that disease. One of those puppies gave birth to 7 other puppies, and I am so glad that all of them are alive and healthy.

All of this was only possible because of the CAS opportunity and because it had become a challenge for me. I have learned that any stray dog is capable of giving love and warmth to you, they shouldn’t be neglected or get beaten up for trying to get shelter. I have also learned the art of commitment and patience, all good things take time.

There were a lot of difficulties that I had to face during this CAS opportunity. A lot of people were against me for taking a stand in favor of the strays, they intentionally used to throw away the dog’s milk bowls, they used to park their cars exactly where the dogs used to sleep. It became very hard because all of them were adults and even my parents wanted my building premises to be dog-free, I felt very bad because nobody was even giving them a chance to prove that they are capable of love. But then, I got a friend who stood by me while the secretary of the building scolded me for feeding them, gradually, I had a whole group in my building who was gonna be there for the strays no matter what.

To sum it all up, I’d like to say that this was a very positive experience for me, even though it had its own rough phases. This gave me an opportunity to take a stand for what I believe in and also taught me how commitment and not giving up are very essential things in life.
